Henry Klassen, Chair, Nechako Watershed Council Action:
Sabra McLain will write a letter for Henry Klassen’s signature to Dr. Ellen
Petticrew, Chair, Nechako Fisheries Conservation Program regarding maximum flow
requirement / water volume for Chinook in May. Action:
Joan Chess to write a letter to Jim Mattison, Director, Land and Water British
Columbia Inc. to request Glen’s assistance on the optimal flow regimes until
June 2002. Action:
Rick Krehbiel, Henry Klassen, and David Marshall write a proposal to
explore the possibilities of the NWC becoming a non-profit society. Decision:
The NWC will focus on implementation of the NWC work plan/priorities.
If there is a divergence it is done by a consensus Council decision. Action:
The NWC will explore reasons why some members are inactive. Action:
Sabra McLain and Phil Zacharatos will advise Minister Thorpe of upcoming NWC
meetings. Decision:
The minutes of NWC meeting January 25 & 26, 2002 are accepted with
changes. Decision:
The budget of the NWC for the fiscal year 2002-03 with be the first item
discussed at the April 2002 meeting. Action:
Richard Prokopanko will draft a letter for Henry Klassen’s signature to
Minister Herb Daliwhal as Minister responsible for British Columbia.
The purpose of the letter is to encourage federal involvement in the
construction of the CWRF at Kenny Dam. The
CWRF Work Plan will be enclosed. The letter will be carbon copied to:

Richard Prokopanko will draft a letter for Henry Klassen’s signature to
Minister Rick Thorpe thanking him for attending the meeting, restating his
commitments made at the NWC March meeting and referencing the above letter to
the Federal Government to ask for his help encouraging federal involvement in
the construction of a CWRF at Kenney Dam. Action:
The NWC will make a workshop presentation at the Engagement for Global Leaders
Conference April 3-5, 2002 Vancouver, BC. Decision:
The NWC accepts the offer made by Alcan to send 3 representatives from
the NWC to New Terms of Engagement for Global Leaders Conference April 3-5, 2002
Vancouver, BC. The Coordinating
Committee will organize the delegation. Action:
Rick Krehbiel will follow up on an unsolicited proposal on the Nechako
River Resident Fish Program from Aquatic Resources Ltd. as to who may be
interested in those services and the value of such a study. Decision:
The
NWC receives A Review of Methodologies for Evaluating the Benefits of a Cold
Water Release Facility at Kenney Dam by Gary Holman and will pay his invoice
of $4347.82. Decision:
The NWC will decide at the next meeting in April 2002 what to do with surplus
funds of approximately $1500 from the Evaluation of the Benefits of a CWRF at
Kenny Dam Phase 1 study. Decision:
The NWC will decide at the next meeting in April 2002 how to proceed with
Phase II of the Evaluation of the Benefits of a CWRF at Kenny Dam study. Decision: The next meetings of the NWC will be: April 26 & 27, 2002 – Fraser Lake May 31 & June 1, 2002 - Houston
