Decision: The NWC accepts the Interim Statement of Revenue and Expenses for 9 months ended December 31, 2000 as presented. Decision: Henry Klassen, Chair, NWC, Jerry Petersen, First Vice-Chair, NWC, Rick Krehbiel, Second Vice-Chair, NWC, Richard Prokopanko, Alcan, and a representative of the BC Government. Mike Robertson, Carrier Cheslatta Nation will also accompany them. They will travel to Ottawa February 25-March 1, 2001 to gain support for a Water Release Facility at Kenney Dam. Decision: The NWC accepts the NWC Public Awareness and Support Plan, Federal Government Meetings, February 2001, Proposed Communications Materials with changes. A written proposal (3-4 pages) will be added to clarify the reason for the meeting. Revisions are to be forwarded to authors as soon as possible. Action: Sabra McLain will contact Dick Harris MP and Andy Burton MP and inform them about the proposed trip to Ottawa and enlist assistance on scheduling meetings with Federal Ministers. Action: Sandy Carpenter to check if cross-section drawings of Nechako River at Vanderhoof available; if not, Sabra McLain to check CNC library. Action: Sabra McLain to get information from local float plane owners for dates flown in September and October 2000 and give to Adam Wei or Glen Davidson. Action: Water Management Branch, Adam Wei or Glen Davidson, to determine flows in Vanderhoof on dates indicated in September and October 2000. Action: Glen Davidson will analyze whether proposed spring freshet will lead to or exacerbate flooding farther downstream, all the way to Prince George. Action: Henry Klassen to contact Wally Eamer to request update and discussion at next NWC meeting, re: Nechako Sturgeon Recovery project and need to coordinate work. NWC to request representation on Nechako Sturgeon Recovery Action Planning Group Action: Clyde Mitchell and Dan Bouillon to check with NFCP as to May maximum flow guideline for Chinook. Decision: The NWC agrees to table the proposal from Trafford Hall (see memo February 1, 2001 T.H. to NWC) re: hydroelectricity at Kemano, to a future meeting; and notes the following points from the discussion: 1. Assurance that all downstream economic, social and environmental interests and needs will be met. 2. How could the economic benefits from Hydro-electric generation at Kemano be shared with the Nechako Valley. 3. How does this proposal fit with Alcan’s water license? How would the proposal work? How does this proposal relate to the NWC’s purpose? Decision: The NWC accepts the Issues Records as distributed. Action: Members to give corrections to Joan Chess. Joan to make revisions; update all records with information received since last fall; and add a title page, table of contents and the list of references. Decision: The next meetings of the Nechako Watershed Council
will be March 9 & 10, 2001 Smithers, April 20 & 21, 2001 Burns Lake
