Minutes of Meeting Nechako Watershed Council Minutes of Meeting September
22, 2006 – Burns Lake Attending:
Guests:
Welcome and Introductions Henry Klassen welcomed everyone to
Burns Lake and introductions were made. Business Meeting Decision: The
NWC adopts the agenda with changes. Decision: The
NWC accepts the minutes from the May 12, 2006, meeting in Smithers, with
changes. Justus
Benckhuysen gave the reservoir update. Decision:
The NWC accepted the Review of the 2005/2006 Financial Statements by Ken
Simon Accounting as presented. Decision:
The NWC accepted the Interim Financial Statement for 3 months ended June
30, as presented. Joan Chess gave a brief update on the Fraser Basin Council
and spoke of the upcoming State of the Fraser Basin Council Conference on
November 16-17, 2006. Justus Benckhuysen gave a brief statement regarding Alcan’s
$2 Billion commitment towards modernizing current smelter at Kitimat. NFCP/NWC
Future Roles Update Dave
Levy gave a brief report. Nechako Enhancement Society Update Don Cadden gave a brief Nechako Enhancement Society Update Action: Don Cadden will ensure that when reports following recent NES workshops
are available they will be distributed to all NWC members. Action:
Don Cadden will look into getting Mike Miles and Associates to speak to
the results of their completed studies and on going studies pertaining to the
Cheslatta Fan and Nechako Canyon sediment flushing post CWRF. Action:
Don Cadden will get the NES to provide an update on where the budget is
sitting for Year 5 of the CWRF Work Plan and what will be needed for Year 6. Action:
Henry Klassen will write a letter to the Chair of the NES to ask them to
qualify their rationale for the removal of two previously identified anticipated
benefits of the CWRF from the NES Benefits Summary Report. Action:
The drafting of the 2nd letter to the Province of British
Columbia will be deferred till the next NWC meeting on November 3, 2006. Sturgeon
Recovery Initiative Update Justus
Benckhuysen gave an update on the work that the Sturgeon Recovery Initiative
(new title?) has been undertaking. Decision:
The next meeting of the NWC will be Friday, November 3, 2006, in the
Burns Lake area.
